Movie research


 The movie "Ma" is what I will be researching today. 

This movie includes intense music in the beginning, their opening scene. It also includes a bit of dark and scary lighting with a figure standing or sort of object. It also has intense music while Sue Ann is watching Maggie's mother leave. The lady, Sue Ann pulled a gun out on the boy, Andy. She had a flashback to when she was a kid. They met in an isolated location, called the Rock Piles they used this to do substances but, she also had them meet up for a meeting. There was a low shot where they searched her home. In this movie, I really enjoyed the flashbacks; it allowed the viewer to get a deeper insight of her childhood insecurities and why she is so obsessed with these children because she never had that before, which had multiple close ups. I liked the isolated locations with dark lighting, it added just enough suspense to fill that thriller moment. I liked when the cop came and did not find the children, that would have been too easy of a plot twist. I don't like the random gun scene and she made him strip; I did not think that scene was super necessary... but maybe it adds to the obsession. I did not like a lot of the gore it had, with the blood and slicing of people.  I also did not like some of the sound effects, especially when she stabbed them, they made the smallest gasp, not very realistic.

  1. How does your product use or challenge conventions AND how does it represent social groups or issues?  My friends and I chose to defy genre traditions for our music video. During the research process, I looked at various rap songs' music videos, specifically those by the same artist (Tyler, The Creator). Because Tyler, the Creator, is such a well-known artist, my initial assumption was that I could base our music video on his general themes. Tyler has a very unique way of producing music videos with surprising outfits and outlandish setups. For example, in the music video “See You Again” Tyler has a set on a naval ship and a small boat at sea, so the idea of trying to make our video similar to Tyler’s music videos was abandoned. That would ultimately be unattainable for my group. We didn't have any money to spend on costumes, sets, or activities. This is why we decided to focus on the fundamentals of our relationships. Reviewer #1 The first reviewer praised the foreshadowing at the start of the sequence, when the kidnapper is visible in the distance behind Jasmine. She also enjoyed the scenario with the empty swing, which led to the kidnapping. However, she admitted that she didn't really get the concept of Jasmine's revenge in the last scene. I believe this is due to our decision not to have Imani hold a knife in that scenario for safety reasons. I don't think we'll solve it, but we'll compensate with voiceover.  Reviewer #2 The second reviewer said they enjoyed the entire movie. They did not suggest any specific improvements. However, they noted that the second part of the sequence appeared to be a little off. They said it was more unprofessional than the first.
