planning blog

Hello, bloggers! As we begin the initial production of our short film, our group has carefully planned how to divide the work based on everyone's availability. Many of us have after-school jobs or participate in various activities, so scheduling has been a key part of our planning process. To make things more manageable, we decided to set our working days for Wednesdays and Sundays, ensuring that everyone has time to contribute without overwhelming their personal commitments. One of our first major group discussions revolved around choosing the perfect title for our short film. We wanted something that was both creative and memorable while keeping it short and intriguing. We brainstormed several ideas, including Slumber in the Knight , A Night to Never Forget , and The Last Slumber. After considering all the options, we finally decided on Slumber Ends. The title works well because it captures the essence of the slumber party while hinting at an unexpected twist or tragic event. T...

Script

Title: "Slumber Ends"** **Genre:** Thriller --- **Script:** *INT. LIVING ROOM - NIGHT* The camera opens on a cozy living room dimly lit by fairy lights, blankets scattered across the floor. A group of five teenage girls, LAURA (17), EMMA (17), TESSA (16), JASMINE (17), and BECCA (16), are sprawled around, chatting and laughing. **LAURA**   (Tariff cards/ creepy game cards) Okay, guys, who wants to know there future? The other girls groan, clearly skeptical but indulging in the fun. **JASMINE**   (rolling her eyes)   Come on, Laura. Are we really doing this? This is so dumb. **BECCA**   (half-laughing)   You’re scared, Jasmine. Admit it. Jasmine shrugs, half-smiling, trying to play it cool. **TESSA**   (joking)   You know, last time I did this, I swear something followed me home. **LAURA**   (mock serious)   Well, now’s your chance to find out if it's still with you. The girls s...

Planning title

Image
PLANNING BLOG; Title Design  The opening credits of the film will appear in a eerie font, “typed” into the Film sporadically.      •    The title of the short film will be "Slumber's End"     •    It will be all bold, the font being called "Dark Mystic".     •    Titles will fade-in and fade-out to give a suspenseful feeling.     •    Titles will disappear after 2 or 3 seconds.     •    Black font will be used for both the titles and the name of each person and their role in the film. Example; DIRECTED BY: Jane Doe     •    The first and last name of the person who holds the job will be 2 sizes larger than the rest of the words.  DIRECTED BY: John Doe

Planning location

Image
Schedule: Majority of our time spent filming will be afterschool, or on the weekends.  Location: The location of our filming will be at  my house, due to our project being centered around a sleepover.  Participants: Within our film, everyone will be in the film, however each of us will be taking turns filming each other, and to get a shot with all of us in it, we will either have a friend record it for us or use a tripod to capture our scene. Nijah will be editing and acting, I will be recording and acting, Natalie will direct and act, and Janiah will record and act.  Health & Safety: Within our film, we will be in a safe location, inside a teammates house with adults. Throughout our project, everything that can be seen as harmful is fake. Such as knifes, and any malicious actions. To ensure the safety of our team, our parents purchased us a first aid kit to keep on hand.  Props: Actors will be utilizing fake knives, fake blood, and anything see...

How to make a short film

Image
After watching the video, I learned a lot about how La Jetée and 12 Monkeys are connected and how a short film can inspire a full-length movie. The video explained how 12 Monkeys takes the idea of time travel, memory, and fate from La Jetée and turns it into a more detailed and complex story. The filmmakers added character development, action scenes, and a larger plot, while still keeping the core ideas of the short film. This showed me how a simple, strong idea can be expanded into something bigger while still maintaining its original themes. I also learned that a short film can serve as a great foundation for a longer film. La Jetée uses still images to tell a powerful story with very little dialogue, and 12 Monkeys builds on this by adding motion, character interaction, and more detail. Even though 12 Monkeys is longer and more complex, it still holds on to the emotional core of the original short. This idea of starting with a small but strong story and then expanding it...
