How to make a short film


 After watching the video, I learned a lot about how La Jetée and 12 Monkeys are connected and how a short film can inspire a full-length movie. The video explained how 12 Monkeys takes the idea of time travel, memory, and fate from La Jetée and turns it into a more detailed and complex story. The filmmakers added character development, action scenes, and a larger plot, while still keeping the core ideas of the short film. This showed me how a simple, strong idea can be expanded into something bigger while still maintaining its original themes.

I also learned that a short film can serve as a great foundation for a longer film. La Jetée uses still images to tell a powerful story with very little dialogue, and 12 Monkeys builds on this by adding motion, character interaction, and more detail. Even though 12 Monkeys is longer and more complex, it still holds on to the emotional core of the original short. This idea of starting with a small but strong story and then expanding it is very helpful for anyone making a film.

One important takeaway is that having a clear vision for your story is key. The video showed that the strength of La Jetée came from its strong concept and how it told a big story with few resources. From 12 Monkeys, I learned that adding layers to the story, like more characters and a richer plot, can make a short film into a full-length feature. The video also showed how important it is to stay true to the main themes of the original story, even when adding new elements.

I believe this will help me with my own short film process. I now understand how I can focus on creating a strong, clear idea for my short film that could be expanded later if I wanted to. I also learned that while it’s important to keep the main idea intact, I can add more details or characters to make the story deeper. The video made me realize how powerful a simple concept can be when it’s done well. It also reminded me to think about how the story could grow into something bigger without losing the original feeling.

Overall, the video gave me useful information on how short films can inspire longer films and how to build on a strong idea. It taught me that starting small and adding layers to the story can create something powerful, and staying true to the core message is important no matter how big the project gets. This insight will definitely help me as I work on my own short film.

During the research process, I looked at various rap songs' music videos, specifically those by the same artist (Tyler, The Creator). Reviewer #1 The first reviewer praised the foreshadowing at the start of the sequence, when the kidnapper is visible in the distance behind Jasmine. She also enjoyed the scenario with the empty swing, which led to the kidnapping. However, she admitted that she didn't really get the concept of Jasmine's revenge in the last scene. I believe this is due to our decision not to have Imani hold a knife in that scenario for safety reasons. I don't think we'll solve it, but we'll compensate with voiceover.  Reviewer #2 The second reviewer said they enjoyed the entire movie. They did not suggest any specific improvements.
