 Don't Breathe 2 (2021), Genre: Thriller



Elements of the genre thriller has dark and scary lighting, jump scares, close-ups scary makeup and tense music. These different conventions fill the audience with adrenaline, make the audience feel the tension, and may trigger the fight or flight in a person. The movie Don't breathe 2 contains all of these features and we would like to add these to our movie, and hopefully make our audience feel the same. Some elements that the move contained that we enjoyed was the plot twist, suspense, jump cutting, flashbacks and more. These conventions allowed the movie to flow nicely, have a good plot overall, and show flashbacks from the previous movie to explain the new plot. Conventions that did not appeal to us the most was the too much dark lighting that didn't allow us to see everything. This could affect the audience poorly because they won't be able to see the movie to the best of its ability.

  1. How does your product use or challenge conventions AND how does it represent social groups or issues?  My friends and I chose to defy genre traditions for our music video. During the research process, I looked at various rap songs' music videos, specifically those by the same artist (Tyler, The Creator). Because Tyler, the Creator, is such a well-known artist, my initial assumption was that I could base our music video on his general themes. Tyler has a very unique way of producing music videos with surprising outfits and outlandish setups. For example, in the music video “See You Again” Tyler has a set on a naval ship and a small boat at sea, so the idea of trying to make our video similar to Tyler’s music videos was abandoned. Reviewer #1 The first reviewer praised the foreshadowing at the start of the sequence, when the kidnapper is visible in the distance behind Jasmine. She also enjoyed the scenario with the empty swing, which led to the kidnapping. However, she admitted that she didn't really get the concept of Jasmine's revenge in the last scene. I believe this is due to our decision not to have Imani hold a knife in that scenario for safety reasons. I don't think we'll solve it, but we'll compensate with voiceover.  Reviewer #2 The second reviewer said they enjoyed the entire movie. They did not suggest any specific improvements. However, they noted that the second part of the sequence appeared to be a little off. They said it was more unprofessional than the first.
